Children and teenagers use the internet in their free time more than ever. Many surveys prove that minors nowadays use this medium for communication. Chats are very popular to get in touch with other users.

As more and more children and teenagers use chat rooms, youth protection in this medium gains in importance. The commercial providers of chat rooms that are members of the FSM have passed a voluntary Code of Conduct: Chat in order to meet their responsibility. This Code of Conduct aims at an improved youth protection in chat rooms in Germany.
